One of the frustrating aspects of being contacted by Marvel, a few years back, about the possibility of doing an X-MEN FOREVER style book with the Fantastic Four — I dubbed it FANTASTIC 4EVER — was that my brain could not stop itself from building storylines, even just THINKING about the idea. I realized that I had discussed online so many of the plans I’d had for the FF when I left their book that I would have to come up with a whole knew set of stories. Which I did! My familiarity with those characters made it nearly impossible NOT to! The frustration arises from my subsequently coming to my senses and realizing there was no way I could work at Marvel under present (or foreseeable) conditions, and so bowing out of the project — but being left with about 2 years worth of stories in my head I couldn’t use anywhere else!

John had this to say about the splash in 2009.

A while back, amidst all the speculation and imaginings about X-MEN EVERMORE and FANTASTIC FOUR FOREVER, I got to wondering how well I could really step back into that particular time and place. Not trying to recapture how I drew back then, but how the John Byrne of today would approach my “next issue” of FANTASTIC FOUR. I played around with some different ways of reentering the storyline, since I would not want to repeat what had been done already, and, of course, things immediately started “writing” themselves in my head. Before I knew it, I had about a year and a half worth of issues, including the splash of the first, bubbling in my brain. By way of shaking myself out of that unproductive cycle, I decided to just go ahead and draw that splash.

Double-amputee Jason Koger used to fly hundreds of miles to visit a clinician when he wanted to adjust the grips on his bionic hands. Now, he’s got an app.

Koger came to Philadelphia this week to demonstrate the i-limb ultra revolution, a prosthetic developed by the British firm Touch Bionics. Using a stylus and an iPhone, Koger can choose any of 24 grip patterns that best suit his needs.
